چکیده

This paper introduces a novel method for online 3-D bin packing, which is strongly NP-hard problem, based on space splitting and merging technique. In this scenario, the incoming box unknown must be immediately packed. The problem has many applications in industries that use manipulators to automate packing process. main idea of approach divide into spaces. These spaces are then categorized one two types data structures: secondary structures. Each node structure holds information can used fit new box. cannot place search algorithm these structures reduces required effort simplifies organizing editing structure. experimental results demonstrate proposed achieve packed volume ratio up 83% case multiple bins being used. position placed found within milliseconds.

Online Colored Bin Packing

In the Colored Bin Packing problem a sequence of items of sizes up to 1 arrives to be packed into bins of unit capacity. Each item has one of c ≥ 2 colors and an additional constraint is that we cannot pack two items of the same color next to each other in the same bin. The objective is to minimize the number of bins. In the important special case when all items have size zero, we characterize ...

Online Stochastic Bin Packing

Motivated by the problem of packing Virtual Machines on physical servers in the cloud, we study the problem of one-dimensional online stochastic bin packing. Items with sizes sampled independent and identically (i.i.d.) from a distribution with integral support arrive as a stream and must be packed on arrival in bins of size B, also an integer. The size of an item is known when it arrives and t...

An 8/3 Lower Bound for Online Dynamic Bin Packing

We study the dynamic bin packing problem introduced by Coffman, Garey and Johnson. This problem is a generalization of the bin packing problem in which items may arrive and depart dynamically. The objective is to minimize the maximum number of bins used over all time. The main result is a lower bound of 8/3 ∼ 2.666 on the achievable competitive ratio, improving the best known 2.5 lower bound. T...

Online algorithms for 1-space bounded multi dimensional bin packing and hypercube packing

In this paper, we study 1-space bounded multi-dimensional bin packing and hypercube packing. A sequence of items arrive over time, each item is a d-dimensional hyperbox (in bin packing) or hypercube (in hypercube packing), and the length of each side is no more than 1. These items must be packed without overlapping into d-dimensional hypercubes with unit length on each side. In d-dimensional sp...

Online Algorithms for 1-Space Bounded 2-Dimensional Bin Packing and Square Packing

In this paper, we study 1-space bounded 2-dimensional bin packing and square packing. A sequence of rectangular items (square items) arrive one by one, each item must be packed into a square bin of unit size on its arrival without any information about future items. When packing items, 90◦-rotation is allowed. 1-space bounded means there is only one “active” bin. If the “active” bin cannot acco...
